Nathaniel Scott has composed original scores for a wide variety of
projects, including two feature-length
independent films and numerous short subjects, student films,
commercials, documentaries and public service announcements. He
has collaborated with independent filmmakers Dusty Clark,
Tim Ritter, Jonathan Rivera, Michael Mynatt, Yuki Kunishima and others.
A native Kentuckian,
Nathaniel has always loved music and movies, and was raised
amidst the best of both. He has 5+ years of university theory, harmony and
counterpoint, 12+ years of formal piano training, and a little experience
conducting small ensembles.
Nathaniel's music for the independent film "Reconciled," directed by Tim
Ritter, was released on CD and a three-page feature article by Nathaniel,
about his experiences scoring the independent feature "Shadows Light," has
appeared in the magazine Film Score Monthly. The short film
"Caregiver," scored by Nathaniel and directed by Dusty Clark competed on
the reality TV show "On the Lot" and was released at the 2006 Sundance
Film Festival Market.
Nathaniel works with high-end instrument sampling technology to realize
his scores. While not yet having had the opportunity to record with
an orchestra, Nathaniel is able to closely approximate the sound of just
about any type of ensemble he chooses. Regardless of how the sounds
are brought about, Nathaniel's musical content is consistently top-notch.
Nathaniel admires the music of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, Howard Shore, Basil Poledouris, Miklos Rozsa,
Ennio Morricone, Maurice Jarre, Philip Glass, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman,
James Newton Howard, Ludwig von Beethoven, Sergei Prokofiev,
Richard Wagner, Ottorino Respighi, Aram Khatchaturian, Wojciech Kilar,
Vangelis and many others.
He also enjoys the
great musicals of Lerner& Loewe, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Andrew
Lloyd Webber, Enya, The Beatles, Simon
& Garfunkel... Put simply, Nathaniel loves good music!
Nathaniel comes from creative people. His mom, Jeanne Filler Scott,
is a professional horse and wildlife artist, and his dad, Tim L. Scott, is an author,
composer, and artist.
